Hurricane Ike Recovery 2010

Catholic Charities Housing Rehabilitation

In September 2008, Hurricane Ike made landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast and devastated the region, heavily impacting Galveston County and the surrounding area. Both public and private efforts were made to restore the housing stock, including Catholic Charities, which used available grant money and private funding to assist in rehabilitation efforts.

SLS was engaged by the Houston/Galveston Diocese to rehabilitate a portfolio of 60 homes throughout the county in dire need of repairs. Within 30 days of engagement, SLS completed all work, which included exterior and interior demolition, roofing, electrical, mechanical and plumbing work, carpentry, flooring and other renovations. All homes were rehabilitated to code and homeowners were quickly returned to their residences.
