Flood Response 2011
FEMA Pennsylvania Emergency Housing
In 2011, the State of Pennsylvania was impacted by Tropical Storm Lee, causing historic flooding throughout the state. The storm caused the damage and destruction of homes in many low-lying areas and prompted the evacuation and displacement of thousands of homeowners.
Several days following the flood, FEMA and State agencies instituted a MHU community site program in affected areas to assist displaced homeowners. SLS was engaged by FEMA and program manager CH2MHILL to construct one of the sites, which was located outside of Tunkhannock in Wyoming County.
SLS mobilized and transformed a wooded field into the 65- unit housing community in 29 days, performing tasks such as demolition, clearing, site work, road construction, utility installation, drainage improvements, foundation construction and mobile unit transportation, installation and make-ready.
