Scope
SLS transfored a vacant recreation center in Devens, MA, into a fully functional emergency shelter to accommodate up to 100 occupants.
As the winter months approached, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) contracted SLS to stand up an emergency shelter for up to 100 shelter occupants. The SLS team transformed a vacant recreation center in Devens, MA into a functional intake and overnight residential shelter facility serving mostly migrant populations. SLS setup facilities for the Emergency Assistance Intake Center and associated Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) to address emergency housing needs for families and pregnant women that were expected to increase during the winter months.
SLS responsibilities related to facility conversion and setup included extensive cleaning of the vacant facility, and improvements to bring the building up to code for plumbing, electrical, and structural additions.
