Project Summary
In September 2019, Hurricane Dorian made landfall on Grand Bahama Island, delivering a powerful storm surge with heavy winds and rain, resulting in one of the most devastating natural disasters the country had ever faced. At least 60% of the island was submerged under water, with homes, businesses and infrastructure destroyed. Rand Memorial Hospital, the island’s primary medical center, was deemed unusable after 75% of the facility was contaminated with blackwater intrusion and subsequent mold growth.
The Carnival Corporation engaged the SLS team to expedite critical emergency repairs to the hospital, with the responsibility of completing as many repairs as possible in an expedited time frame. The SLS team mobilized personnel, equipment and materials within days and began restoring a safe, clean, compliant hospital environment, ensuring accessible medical care and well-being for the residents of Grand Bahamas.
