SLS provided extensive housing restoration and hazard remediation to address the damage caused by severe storms, winds, and flooding.
Project Summary
In 2015, the Oglala Sioux Native American Reservation was impacted by severe storms, powerful winds, and flooding, which further damaged already outdated and dilapidated Reservation housing. In response, FEMA utilized set-aside Federal grant funding, instituting a home repair program to restore affected housing on the Reservation to current building codes and improved housing standards.
In partnership with Native American Small Business interests, SLS was engaged and tasked with updating the homes to safe, functional and sanitary living conditions. Utilizing Reservation residents for the labor force, the SLS team managed all aspects of workforce training, compliance and quality assurance throughout project lifecycle. In addition to comprehensive housing renovations, the homes required asbestos abatement and leadbased paint, piping and other hazardous material remediation and disposal in order to bring the structures up to current building code.
