Project Summary
In September 2017, Hurricane Irma impacted the Caribbean Basin and the southeastern United States, leaving widespread mass destruction in its wake. The Florida Keys were heavily impacted, with thousands of homeowners displaced due to severe wind, rain and flood damage. Monroe County, primarily comprised of the Florida Keys, instituted a FEMA-funded STEP program to provide emergency repairs to homes that could be feasibly rehabilitated.
In late 2017, SLS was engaged by Monroe County to execute the STEP program as construction manager and general contractor. SLS, utilizing in-house personnel and resources, as well as local subcontractors and suppliers, provided basic repair services to the homes in a tightly compressed time frame to allow residents to return to their homes and shelter in place until permanent repairs could be made.
